The Truth about Health

woman standing on a mountainGrowing up a very sick kid in London, Ontario, my weekly visits to the doctor’s office soon made me realize that without my health, life was miserable and had no purpose. My parents came to this country to make a better life for our family. Having the same belief about health as millions of others around the world ended up creating the same health problems that millions of others experience. What are those beliefs that cause us not to reach our full health potential? I have found that there are 5 beliefs that will compromise our health:

1. “I feel fine, I must be healthy.”

In order to feel symptoms, there needs to be 40% damage to cells. When does someone start feeling the pain of cancer, at the beginning or the end of the disease? At the END! The first sign of heart disease is the one that kills you! See the trend here? Health is more than just how you feel.

2. “When I do have symptoms, my doctor prescribes me drugs, and it makes me healthy.”

FALSE – Symptoms are “secondary conditions” to the “primary condition”, meaning that the symptoms you feel are just an expression of something else that is wrong. Covering up and numbing those symptoms with drugs does not address the primary condition which only allows it to worsen and develop into a chronic cycle.

3. “All I have to do is exercise!”

Did you know that Jim Fix, the inventor of Running for Health, died at the age of 52 after running 10 miles per day for years?! This alone should tell us something.

4. “All I have to do is eat well.”

This is a topic that needs deeper focus, but for now I will tell you that yes, even vegetarians suffer from chronic illness, especially Type 2 Diabetes. Can anyone say that grains are really good for you? Well-known cardiologist Dr. William Davis points out in his best-selling book “Wheat Belly” that 2 pieces of whole wheat bread raises blood sugar more than 2 teaspoons of sugar does!

5. “Chiropractic is only needed when you have unresolved ‘back pain’.”

This could not be further from the truth. Yes, Chiropractic care has helped millions with back pain to live a healthier active life. Chiropractic is so much more than that though. It is about removing stress from the most vital system in the body – The Nervous System. The Nervous System directs and controls all other functions in the body, and co-ordinates and adapts the body to its environment. We have helped babies and kids get over colic, chronic ear infections, seizures, anxiety, ADHD, and Autism, just to name a few conditions. Medicine may save your life, but chiropractic care allows you to live it!
